Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), also "Fraction V," is a serum albumin protein derived from bovine blood. The BSA protein is purified and fractionated through a heat-shock procedure, followed by extensive diafiltration and ion exchange to remove other plasma proteins, lipids, and extraneous ions.

BSA Protease Free (BSA PF) is especially suited for applications with protease-sensitive protein components. BSA has widespread use in various biochemical applications, such as ELISAs (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay), immunohistochemistry, and immunoblots. Furthermore, it is used as a stabilizer and cell growth supplement in cell and microbial cultures.
Further applications include, serum-free cell culture as an additive for hybridoma cell culture, protein stabilizer, and blocking agent.
