Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI) 1640 is a growth medium used in different cell culture applications. This formulation of RPMI 1640 powder is supplemented with L-Glutamine and comes without Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3). RPMI 1640 is suitable for supporting the growth of many cell types and was developed to support lymphoblastoid cells in suspension cultures. It can support a wide range of other cell types, such as HeLa, MCF-7, PC12, Jurkat, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas.

Originally intended to be supplemented with serum, RPMI 1640 has also been shown to support several cell lines in the absence of serum. Compared to other media, RPMI 1640 has a unique formulation containing glutathione and high concentrations of vitamins. The powder media can be reconstituted to provide important nutrients for all cell culture applications.

The dry powdered cell culture media and buffers are manufactured using the highest quality ingredients. This powder is precisely blended using clean, controlled, state-of-the-art equipment to eliminate contaminating dust and to control the temperature and humidity.
