Efficient and Comfortable Observation
The Nikon ECLIPSE Ts2 inverted microscope is designed for efficient and reliable cell culture observation in modern laboratories. Its compact design, integrated LED illumination, and intuitive controls allow researchers to focus on their samples rather than the microscope setup. By combining Nikon’s proven optical performance with practical workflow improvements, the Ts2 supports routine work in cell biology, biomedical research, and general laboratory environments.
Faster, Brighter Imaging with LED Illumination
The microscope integrates LED light sources with built-in Diascopic and Epi-fluorescence illumination systems, reducing setup time and simplifying operation. The LED illumination is alignment-free, enabling fast startup and consistent imaging results. LEDs eliminate the need for frequent bulb replacements, reducing maintenance requirements and operational costs while ensuring stable illumination throughout daily use.
For fluorescence applications, the optional Contrast Shield accessory improves imaging performance in bright environments. By blocking ambient room light, it enables high signal-to-noise fluorescence observation even in brightly lit culture rooms. This provides a simple and cost-effective way to improve fluorescence contrast without modifying the laboratory environment.
Streamlined Operation
The ECLIPSE Ts2 is designed with intuitive and clearly positioned controls to support efficient workflows. Frequently used functions, including power and switching between diascopic and epi-fluorescence illumination, are located on the front panel for easy access. Controls are clearly organized to improve usability. Buttons related to diascopic observation are located on one side of the microscope body, while epi-fluorescence controls are positioned on the opposite side. This layout reduces confusion and allows users to operate the microscope quickly during routine laboratory work.
Flexible Mechanical Stage for Cell Culture Applications
An optional high-performance mechanical stage allows the microscope to accommodate a wide range of sample formats commonly used in cell culture laboratories. The stage supports culture flasks, culture chambers, and multi-well plates. The redesigned stage also allows direct placement of well plates without additional adapters. The removable sample holder makes it easy to create additional space for larger culture flasks, providing flexibility for different experimental setups.
Emboss Contrast for Thick Specimens
The microscope supports Emboss Contrast, a cost-effective optical technique that enhances the visualization of thick biological samples. This method uses a standard brightfield objective with two contrast sliders and requires no specialized or expensive optics. Emboss Contrast produces pseudo-three-dimensional, glare-free images, which are particularly useful for samples such as induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells that often produce halos with conventional phase-contrast methods. The technique is compatible with both glass and plastic culture chambers, making it highly versatile for different laboratory workflows.
High-Quality Diascopic and Fluorescence Imaging
Two configurations of the ECLIPSE Ts2 are available to support different imaging needs. The ECLIPSE Ts2 provides high-quality diascopic illumination for routine cell observation. The ECLIPSE Ts2-FL includes epi-fluorescence illumination for fluorescence imaging applications. Both models use high-intensity LED illumination to deliver bright and stable imaging. A built-in fly-eye lens ensures uniform brightness across the entire field of view, supporting consistent and reliable image quality during observation and documentation.
Compact and Stable Microscope Design
The illumination modules, including the fluorescence light source, are fully integrated into the microscope body. This creates a compact and streamlined design that fits easily into laboratory spaces such as culture rooms and biosafety cabinets. The stable structure helps reduce vibration and supports reliable observation of delicate samples. A side-mounted camera port allows easy integration of digital cameras while maintaining full visibility of the stage, even when the microscope is placed inside a culture hood.
